Tips on making your next move easier!

Moving home is stressful at the best of times, but how can you ensure the move goes smoothly?

It’s one thing making sure everything is packed, cancelled and locked before you leave your family home forever. But what if all the planning in the world doesn’t successfully prep your children? If this is their first home, it can be harder for them to come to terms with leaving. But fear not, we’ve done the research for you.

Here are a few tips and tricks to help your move go smoothly:

Start packing in advance

This seems pretty obvious, but it helps you become more organised and makes the whole unpacking process a lot simpler! Invest in some labels for your boxes, bubble wrap and markers and work from your least-used items to your most! This also reduces the risk of stressing out the children of the family, and it won’t feel so abrupt.

Notify companies of your new address

This can be a huge pain, but something that needs to be done. If you’re not sure who to contact, check out our blogpost and print off our handy checklist! Ask one of your children to help you keep tabs on who you have and haven’t contacted.

Pack an essentials bag

After a long day of moving, the last thing you need is to find your phone charger, toothbrush, children’s teddy bears, and all the other necessities. Pack your must-haves in a clear box with all the things you use/need the most. Using a clear box allows you to see the contents, but it also distinguishes itself from the rest of your boxes. Don’t forget the box cutter!

Buy a roll of stretch wrap

It’s just like a giant roll of cling film! It will help you group your boxes together when organising, whether that’s per room, weight etc. It also protects your furniture from getting scratched.

Arrange your utilities before you move

Sort out your utilities such as home insurance, gas and electric, and council tax before your moving day. Also, don’t forget about your WiFi! There’s nothing worse than calling up your new internet provider to find out they can’t come for a couple of weeks. Book them in as soon as you have the move-in date so you can relax with Netflix on your first night in your new home.
