When a move is on the cards, whether it’s for work or play, to be closer to family, to make a new start, or be in a catchment area for the best schools, it’s always a good idea to know the area you’re moving to before you buy a place to live.
There are many plus points to living in Leicestershire, from the gorgeous countryside, to the amazing arts and culture, entertainment and shopping, or the fantastic nightlife. That’s not to mention a sporting history to be well and truly proud of.
Based in the heart of the Midlands, nowhere is too far away, so, if you’re wondering should I move to Leicestershire, then here are some handy hints and tips to help you decide.
Points of interest
Are you looking for some great places to visit? Excellent days out in Leicestershire, whether it’s for the whole family, couples, or just on your own, include the following points of interest which draw in visitors from miles around:
- Twycross Zoo
- National Space Centre
- Twinlakes Theme Park
- Belvoir Castle
- Bosworth Battlefields
- Donington Park
- Great Central Railway
- Rutland Water
- Bradgate Park
- Beacon Hill
- Leicester Cathedral (burial place of King Richard III)
- New Walk Museum
Then of course Leicester is famed for its huge variety of arts, culture and entertainment. Check out the likes of The Curve Theatre, Leicester’s centre for independent cinema, art and digital culture, The Phoenix, De Montfort Hall, the Little Theatre and a vibrant festival calendar that stretches throughout the year.
Places to live
So, now you’ve got a picture of all the marvellous things there are to see and do in Leicestershire, where should you live? It’s always a good idea to firstly work out what you want from the area you’ll be calling home. After all, different parts of Leicester are brilliant for different things.
For instance, do you want good public transport links, is it important to have lots of beautiful green space around you, or do you want to be a stone’s throw from the great dining experiences and nightlife of the city centre?
In a recent news story by Leicestershire’s very own local newspaper, the Leicester Mercury, it revealed a study by the Centre for Economic and Business Research said the south Leicestershire town of Wigston was the most desirable place to live.
It’s easy to see why, as there’s a mix of everything here, including lovely green spaces and plenty to do, but there’s also easy access to the city centre for work.
After Wigston came the popular villages and towns of Newtown Linford, Kibworth, Loughborough and Mountsorrel. But to be fair, there are lots of lovely towns and villages in and around Leicestershire, which make great places to live, again, depending on what’s up there on your list of priorities.
